For this, cut the whole length of the pillowcase opposite to the opening of the pillow case as shown on the illustration below. Then turn the pillowcase inside out and pin the tail. Stitch the whole side length of the pillowcase to close it again. To attach the fin, remove some of the stitches at the top of the pillowcase to create an aperture for the fin as shown by the letters C and D on the illustration below. Insert the fin and stitch it to the pillowcase. Turn the right side out.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-XdC2SDHNFUsoOoIT8dCocn2uluNMLRphkP_JWAwBh2hDpc1CGaKbDSvvAYz8N5BlnWYP73QPQjwXf9HiXvFBdKuIx0zoJVZRh3PYwoyCrC9Nl6cgYHFBaXxncmQXKMsDSjLUmBdUxRI/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2046" data-original-width="2886" height="454" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-XdC2SDHNFUsoOoIT8dCocn2uluNMLRphkP_JWAwBh2hDpc1CGaKbDSvvAYz8N5BlnWYP73QPQjwXf9HiXvFBdKuIx0zoJVZRh3PYwoyCrC9Nl6cgYHFBaXxncmQXKMsDSjLUmBdUxRI/w640-h454/20200514_100434-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Third step - Make the fish eye. With a compass (or anything with a round side such as a glass) make three circles on the freezer paper as shown on the picture below (Top left photo). Cut out the inside circle and the outside circle but leaving a small stripe of paper between the outer circle and the inside circle. (This will help to keep the circle centred in the middle.) Take the shinny/plastic coated side of the freezer paper towards the fabric and iron it on a flat surface to 'fix' it to the fabric. Then with a small scissors, remove the two small stripes. Iron again to make sure that the freezer paper is adherent all around to the fabric. Place a piece of cardboard under the area you are about to paint, so no paint will pass through all the layers of your pillowcase. Then start to apply some black paint in the outer circle and then some silver paint in the inside circle. Leave to dry for at least one hour or until dry to the touch.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7V05ct4jJvb13NqqvEvXTmQO7Rxbc2wC2dFBuXdW3ofptLkFjSi2xVtRK5usJ5m4D1LjGrTGHh601v8m4wVI6kj0Fs2niw2w0L75QGq1FV-LNRsQDnwBlW8BvC6BObKtfbgxgXiGn4OM/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1564" data-original-width="1564" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7V05ct4jJvb13NqqvEvXTmQO7Rxbc2wC2dFBuXdW3ofptLkFjSi2xVtRK5usJ5m4D1LjGrTGHh601v8m4wVI6kj0Fs2niw2w0L75QGq1FV-LNRsQDnwBlW8BvC6BObKtfbgxgXiGn4OM/w640-h640/IMG_20200510_140402.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Finally, once the paint is dried, peel off the freezer paper and iron on 'cotton setting' for at least 5 minutes for the paint to 'fix' to the fabric. You can use a tea towel between the pillowcase and your iron as the paint may slightly stain your iron if the paint you applied is very thick. Et voila, your koinobori pillowcase is ready!</div>MushyPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02638370430290106245noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5573357052041724801.post-71278723393297960402020-05-14T14:32:00.000-07:002020-05-14T14:32:57.807-07:00Crocheted amigurumi pill rattle <div><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "Graphik Webfont", -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Roboto, "Droid Sans", "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;">As a former neuroscientist, I remember all the little toys that medical and science students would collect and surround themselves with. The list of creative projects can be so long that it can sometimes be difficult to decide which one to start. This headband idea came after I ordered some gingham fabric for making new products (the personalised cat-shaped cushions and some bunny rabbit bags) and after using most of it I was left with a long stripe of it. And here came the idea of making this cute headband with the left over yellow gingham fabric. And perfect project to start with as it takes less than a hour to make if you have all the stuffs available in your house of course!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQPw1EXtSrVcGsVoQJOuKNUI-Mp0MGxJKtbFKngp7PBnpWWeI7gkaAsaKEGUK5ve-RjYxDRt8ZApl4M6UuYNYnHElMGc5sPS_KMbkD8b5a6hw5ZSSh8fVpXbK-3zsOxcsI9sp4sQRQglo/s1600/IMG-20200410-WA0001-01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQPw1EXtSrVcGsVoQJOuKNUI-Mp0MGxJKtbFKngp7PBnpWWeI7gkaAsaKEGUK5ve-RjYxDRt8ZApl4M6UuYNYnHElMGc5sPS_KMbkD8b5a6hw5ZSSh8fVpXbK-3zsOxcsI9sp4sQRQglo/s640/IMG-20200410-WA0001-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For making this headband, you will need a 90 cm to 1 metre long stripe of fabric (approximately 13 cm wide), a 10 cm long elastic, some thread, needles, scissors and obviously a sewing machine to make it in less than a hour!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT7LEM36ly-G_dvHAsGThg-yr0509ESECX0ZK42_ZnkuzPdnbJq9PokUgrBS80F7jffRPuYMj5JP6CzN9hYl6whFBQXJ_H-h2VBvhoRlmmkvbQsfdNfJH2Z13l5Ot4xj1ocusEfbbj4XU/s1600/20200410_132355-01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1367" data-original-width="1600" height="546" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT7LEM36ly-G_dvHAsGThg-yr0509ESECX0ZK42_ZnkuzPdnbJq9PokUgrBS80F7jffRPuYMj5JP6CzN9hYl6whFBQXJ_H-h2VBvhoRlmmkvbQsfdNfJH2Z13l5Ot4xj1ocusEfbbj4XU/s640/20200410_132355-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Fold the stripe of fabric in two and sew all around by starting from the middle of one side of the fabric. Make sure to make a pointy extremity as shown below. Leave a good 5 cm opening for reversing the fabric. With scissors, trim each 'pointy' extremity (see picture below)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIFTF-jImoLHesnK_l7QP9rUdLyok59zA90ZjdgDPF_rR7bccmy3hyphenhyphenPkrNqc0VLMsDDQkR44C_bi01f1oXzV1XsnpCsnsDwCx6PRtcI4kYgReVtTe5r0UOWmTZV1__SJ9fI-4NPqo2dwc/s1600/20200410_132156-01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1433" data-original-width="1600" height="572" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIFTF-jImoLHesnK_l7QP9rUdLyok59zA90ZjdgDPF_rR7bccmy3hyphenhyphenPkrNqc0VLMsDDQkR44C_bi01f1oXzV1XsnpCsnsDwCx6PRtcI4kYgReVtTe5r0UOWmTZV1__SJ9fI-4NPqo2dwc/s640/20200410_132156-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Turn the headband inside out and close the gap.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBetQuXofmWCHCq_YQnIdK3wsczZahQ5yNJQyenqT847Lql_mBJJxl9dBKdcn9KVHKo-rvu6bG2_qUjgp3raRjmJNB2gWkpKIO_CljieRtQV0ej-e_NLirtsli0CrbBUZyMCTN-rom-7w/s1600/20200410_134032-01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBetQuXofmWCHCq_YQnIdK3wsczZahQ5yNJQyenqT847Lql_mBJJxl9dBKdcn9KVHKo-rvu6bG2_qUjgp3raRjmJNB2gWkpKIO_CljieRtQV0ej-e_NLirtsli0CrbBUZyMCTN-rom-7w/s640/20200410_134032-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Form the knot of the headband<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXZDXzdjc4BQEatJw-o8kTniKe3TQp6kbCuRZk_LDfY-eHPz1nOUc_A4AfQ4f8fdC1d_GGRxDkoisei9vLPm0ChgMLqgDawWxrCLbydpQX2oBbK7vpzHuS_mG42TNPtzpaIr9DIkhXpRE/s1600/20200410_134550-01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXZDXzdjc4BQEatJw-o8kTniKe3TQp6kbCuRZk_LDfY-eHPz1nOUc_A4AfQ4f8fdC1d_GGRxDkoisei9vLPm0ChgMLqgDawWxrCLbydpQX2oBbK7vpzHuS_mG42TNPtzpaIr9DIkhXpRE/s640/20200410_134550-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next, measure 25 cm (for a 56 cm headband) from the knot and sew one side of the elastic in the middle of the fabric stripe and 25 cm away from the knot<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5XJHpnYWjc7588_MZbM4UhJm5U95i-RutFfeyWO35Wp-WO_X24hBPwLR0gRLx06s9lYDy1dfwGGo1w-C4nqGbT0AqP_kyu_cdu80deP4hDtdRfUUEOnL2b6PgN9d-beQaBn1gK6-Qxjc/s1600/20200410_135742-01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1371" data-original-width="1600" height="548" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5XJHpnYWjc7588_MZbM4UhJm5U95i-RutFfeyWO35Wp-WO_X24hBPwLR0gRLx06s9lYDy1dfwGGo1w-C4nqGbT0AqP_kyu_cdu80deP4hDtdRfUUEOnL2b6PgN9d-beQaBn1gK6-Qxjc/s640/20200410_135742-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Fold the stripe in two from the length of the fabric stripe at the level of the elastic end you just sow. Flip the elastic so it pops out of the fold you are about to make. Then place a needle as shown on the picture below. Repeat the same on the opposite side. Measure 25 cm from the knot, fold the fabric in two and add another needle. You are going to make a 'tunnel' for the elastic to pass through<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjExKUJdJKzUzo8kulENKh3KvBPtumjF4Wrr_gz463lGJwgVIzSPjNg131DzWY11wzwvkfa-O9tBYSmTZPGsUJYwGixNNxr42zCdN_bQZ5QsWNnP032jHSoypCHDjq90Vi6hRP-AMjXvZQ/s1600/20200410_135848-01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1422" data-original-width="1600" height="568" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjExKUJdJKzUzo8kulENKh3KvBPtumjF4Wrr_gz463lGJwgVIzSPjNg131DzWY11wzwvkfa-O9tBYSmTZPGsUJYwGixNNxr42zCdN_bQZ5QsWNnP032jHSoypCHDjq90Vi6hRP-AMjXvZQ/s640/20200410_135848-01.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once your 'tunnel' is sewn, take a safety pin and drag the elastic into that 'tunnel'. Sew the elastic onto the fabric (as you did for the other side of the elastic) et voila! Done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And a few decades later, it is our turn, parents, to shout 'the Easter bunny has come' and to observe with full amusements and nostalgia our child frantically screening our garden for any shiny wrapped chocolate eggs and bunnies!<br />
<br />
These are the magical moments of our childhood that we hope so much to pass on to the next generation. I am not sure what are my daughter's feelings and emotions at this particular moment but it certainly has its effect.<br />
<br />
I have created a tote bag especially for this occasion, using natural cotton fabric, strong enough to hold lots of chocolates and to last to be cherished and passed on to the next generation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvNvRvtaSlLOzIWfzA9zDPMWSQf6kp2ALI_H6jWDjKat4r2_7O9c90na8ZSYBJ6q64lOcA-2nltkqzApdumP260L1fxg1DWOOEj5lF6dLS4WCdLWEti1AyjB08QAw9T97kn_tVrVYP_rM/s1600/Tote-bags-for-Easter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvNvRvtaSlLOzIWfzA9zDPMWSQf6kp2ALI_H6jWDjKat4r2_7O9c90na8ZSYBJ6q64lOcA-2nltkqzApdumP260L1fxg1DWOOEj5lF6dLS4WCdLWEti1AyjB08QAw9T97kn_tVrVYP_rM/s640/Tote-bags-for-Easter.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
To make these tote bags even more special, we can cross stitch a monogram at the bottom right of the bag.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidNRKhu6j7zlcFPiqCdWpdUJysxBWARYmkRv4kEUS5gEY1PhNkPjn0Cg9MRHUJwUtxJLslbnadN0tj-yGyqPADWqUYGAUNL-QOCAmFaF5UZb7DBk_Is1BrkQgJrC4PdhDqfAOSbvnGbyU/s1600/Cross-stitched-running-bunny-rabbit-tote-bag_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidNRKhu6j7zlcFPiqCdWpdUJysxBWARYmkRv4kEUS5gEY1PhNkPjn0Cg9MRHUJwUtxJLslbnadN0tj-yGyqPADWqUYGAUNL-QOCAmFaF5UZb7DBk_Is1BrkQgJrC4PdhDqfAOSbvnGbyU/s640/Cross-stitched-running-bunny-rabbit-tote-bag_2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Using a removable grid (name waste canvas) the monogram is cross stitched directly onto the calico fabric. And once the embroidery is completed the threads of the waste canvas are removed. Et voil<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">à</span>!<br />

Not sure why she asked me this but after all, I realized that all the walls in her blue room are empty at the exception of a spice shelf we repainted in green and re-purposed into a mini toy shelf.<br />
<br />
Kids posters, Kids illustrators, my daughter made me curious.<br />
After a few searches, here would be my selection. Let's hope my 7-year old will like them too!<br />

Add to this hue of colors, the soft sound of the breeze brushing the fresh green leaves, the little birdies chirping, the scent of the fresh grass filled with wild flowers. Do you feel like spring in on its way?<br />
Time to take you to our source of inspiration and to our new <span style="color: #e69138;"><span style="font-size: large;">spring</span></span> collection.<br />
Hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!<br />

<br />
Of course, there is no spring without birdies. These crocheted eggs are ready to hatch and the little chicks, ready to pop! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The eggs are available in different shades of "springy" colors from beige to latte, chocolate, light green, soft pink and soft blue. They are hand made in Hertfordshire in the lovely town of Hitchin (United Kingdom)<br />
<br />
I particularly love Gingham check fabric. I am not sure whether this is because it has a french appeal to it, but it is a little "retro" but yet timeless. It reminds me of my childhood, when I was wearing my Gingham dress and collecting eggs hidden in the garden.<br />

Our new product is not a fluffy chick as pictured above (we have the crocheted version though) but a super cute cat made of 100% cotton Canary yellow gingham. And cherry on the cake! You can personalize this lovely kitty-shaped cushion.<br />

<br />
It is at this time
of the year that we cannot help ourselves at looking back at the
previous year in order to plan hopefully better this new year to come. I
will take 2020 as if it was a fresh and new canvas.<br />
<br />
When
thinking of my business and what have been the highlights of 2019, this
personalised tooth fairy pouch (pictured here) come immediately to my
mind (okay, among other exciting highlights). I launched this product
last year <span class="text_exposed_show">after being
inspired/encouraged by my daughter who reached the age of loosing her
first tooth. It has been by far my 2019 best seller!</span><br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="text_exposed_show">
Happy to also report that we used my daughter's personalised tooth
fairy pouch on Monday. She lost her very first tooth at the age of 7
years and 5 months!!<br />
<br />
My lemon-shaped cushions, Christmas
tree-shaped cushions and my Japanese fish-shaped drawstring bags are
also among my best sellers. They are classical products and we can
definitely qualify them as timeless too! Oh, and i should not forget
that my crocheted onions launched last year too were also my best
sellers with 39 crocheted onions sold last year! Hurray for the onions!<br />

Thank you so much!<br />
<br />
Another big highlight was the challenging request from Not On The High
Street who commissioned me to create a very large crocheted mistletoe at
a very short notice for their "Christmas in July" event. I said yes to
the challenge, then got a moment of panic on "how on Earth I will be
ready on time". Well. Time to pat myself in the back. I crocheted a 50 x
50 cm mistletoe branch in 24 hours!<br />

<br />
To complete the year (and
start the new year with lots of excitement), my business has been
nominated for an Award. All the businesses nominated for this Award have
many employers so I am not so sure how a single goldfish containing
bowl can compete with a full crowded aquarium!! So very grateful that my
business has been noticed though!<br />
<br />
Thank you to you All for following my journey.<br />
Sending you all my best wishes for 2020!<br />

Just pretend onesHow to encourage your little ones to eat their fruits and vegetables?<br />
<br />
While I still don't have a good answer to this question - after 7 years of parenting - it has been shown that pretend play helps your child to develop their language skills which is beneficial for their social and emotional development.<br />
<br />
At petit MushyP, we have a large selection of crocheted fruits and vegetables (and cakes as well but with a fruit on top!) for them to play with. I am not sure whether these soft toys will encourage your child to eat more fruits and vegetables but, after all, they are still good for them, at least in a developmental point of view!<br />

studio, workshop, office. I work from home - a Victorian cottage that is small
but full of charm. My work space is no more than a side of my kitchen. This is where I do most of my sewing, pack my orders, make my tags and occasionally where I do some crochet. The kettle is a metre away and I can plug my mobile phone and listen to podcasts while sipping my tea... and sewing of course! <br />

Inspiration is found straight from the nature, Japanese textiles & crafts and
traditional toys from the past. They all share the same vibes -
simplicity and elegance. <br />

This <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/198037747/toadstool-shaped-cushion-handmade" target="_blank">toadstool-shaped cushion</a>
is the very first one to be designed by Petit MushyP. The idea was to
create a fun cushion that does not have the usual square or rectangle
shape but simply a mushroom shape using specific pattern and colored
fabric. For sure this little cushion is guaranteed to add lots of colors
to any woodland-themed nursery. Perfect gift for a new baby!<br />

I have just launched (5 minutes ago as I am writing this post) my plush lobster rattle.<br />

<br />
I have had this product idea in mind for the last couple of months but never had the chance (read here the time) to work on it.<br />
<br />

<br />
This is the part of my business that I love the most. Having an idea for a product, virtually visualizing it, designing the pattern, thinking of the texture and the color of the fabric as well as the function of the toy and the packaging. Then you have to shop for the best raw material as possible (fabric, rattle, cotton drawstring bags...), and to make a prototype of the toy. This prototype will be used for all the CE certification testings - all the tests that are carried out on the toy to make sure that the stitches are strong enough that no small pieces comes of, that it is not flammable and also that the fabric used does not contain any toxic compounds for the newborn/young child.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjActbaQfMCdWbZUfxC4BL6QTneVIyvetkqsWgXZOyHmrlTnjj3fMwuakq6cvYNN3Rp2EcZqulx1RNWcrOAdTBAJ93ppLjqs5IefZAyid2KUyQApWbG_kAg6z9dfvp3xwPE3BFkDN03X8w/s1600/Plush-lobster_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjActbaQfMCdWbZUfxC4BL6QTneVIyvetkqsWgXZOyHmrlTnjj3fMwuakq6cvYNN3Rp2EcZqulx1RNWcrOAdTBAJ93ppLjqs5IefZAyid2KUyQApWbG_kAg6z9dfvp3xwPE3BFkDN03X8w/s640/Plush-lobster_4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
Finally, cherry on the cake, there is the photo shooting time which can be pretty fun but mainly when the weather is great like today.<br />
<br />
What do you think of this new product?<br />

<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;">I have not been visiting this blog - I started in 2010 - for so long so I thought I should introduce myself and explain what Petit MushyP [pronunciation "Mushy Pea"] is all about!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br />I founded Petit MushyP back in 2013 in Hitchin (Hertfordshire, United Kingdom) soon after the arrival of my daughter Agathe. Formally a scientist, I decided in 2015 to work full-time on Petit MushyP, designing and making items for children and babies. Petit MushyP is currently ran by myself in my home studio in Hitchin. </span><br />

How I did it? <div class="XzvDs _208Ie _3_7DB blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _158eo _3_7DB">
Do you remember the first time you have ever been asked "what would you like to be when you will grow up"? You were probably 10 or less and had no clue at that time what life will bring you to. Well, even when you become a "grown-up" your career path may slightly change.</div>
<div class="XzvDs _208Ie _3_7DB blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _158eo _3_7DB">
This was back in 2013. I was on maternity leave. The first time I have ever stopped working following a long and uninterrupted career as a scientist in Academia. I was at home in Hitchin (Hertfordshire, United Kingdom) and alone with my baby girl thinking. </div>
<div class="XzvDs _208Ie _3_7DB blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _158eo _3_7DB">

<div class="XzvDs _208Ie _3_7DB blog-post-text-font blog-post-text-color _2p1aK _158eo _3_7DB">
Before leaving the lab, heavily pregnant, I had the great plan to complete the writing of one scientific manuscript as well as drafting a grant application. That was how my brain was thinking before having my first child. But soon, it turned out that nothing went according to plan. Instead I used most of my time (when it was not for bottle feeding, diaper changing, bathing or going for a long walk with my daughter) to think. Not at all thinking endlessly of science but about my life instead, and more specifically about where i stood in life and what would really make me happier and that could accommodate a new person in my life. (Do we call this midlife crisis?) Then it became clear that the prospect of pursuing a career in Academia which would have resumed in manuscripts and grant applications writing and submission, in addition to lecturing and running my own lab became less and less appealing.</div>

<strong>"I didn't know what I wanted in order to improve my career path but at least I knew what I didn't want"</strong></div>

At that time I felt like my excitement for science was vanishing so it was time for something new and fresh in my life. I slowly realised that I needed an activity that i could be in full control of in order to regain some of the confidence I lost after having a baby. I knew how to sew (thanks to my grand mother), how to knit (thanks to my mother) and even how to crochet (thanks to many tutorials on YouTube). I started to draw some patterns and made a bunny rabbit soft toy. I then designed and crocheted few vegetables and very much loved it (my daughter too!). I became a little bit more adventurous with techniques and used fabric paints to customise a few bodysuits. I also designed some shaped nursery pillows (toadstool and hedgehogs) and soon I ended up with a wide range of products.</div>

In April 2013, i knocked at the door of the office of Hitchin Market with this little voice in my head telling me "just go for it and stop waiting" and this is when I got my first stall at the Hitchin Farmers & Crafts market in May 2013. This was a revelation - I simply loved it. And this is how Petit MushyP' s journey all started.</div>
