Mini crocheted Easter egg decoration - Free pattern and tutorial for beginners



Have you ever wanted to start to learn how to crochet? Here is a tutorial I wrote for you to get started. And because it was all about Easter, let's start making a mini Easter egg decoration.

Materials
Crochet hook size 3.00mm
Any Double Knitting (DK) weight yarn
Polyester toy fibres
Scissors
Sewing needle

H1.5 x D1” (H4 x D3cm)

Abbreviations
st - stitches
tss - total stitches

Start by the base of the egg
Keep a 10 cm “tail” and then make a chain with 6 st. Close the chain to make a ring
[see figure 1 below for instructions on how to proceed for starting the egg]
All the egg is crocheted using the single crochet stitch
[see figures 2 and 3 for instructions on how to make a single crochet]
Row 1- Increase by adding 1 st in each st (12 tss)
[see figures 2 for instructions on how to increase]
Row 2- Increase by adding 1 st in every second st (18 tss)
Row 3- Increase by adding 1 st in every third st (24 tss)
Row 4- Increase by adding 1 st in every fourth st (30 tss)
Row 5 to row 7- continue without any increases (30 tss)
Row 8- Decrease 6 times by passing the hook through the 2 next st [6 times (st4+st5)] (24 tss) [see figures 4 for instructions on how to decrease]
Row 9 to row 10- continue without any increases (24 tss)
Row 11- Decrease 6 times by passing the hook through the 2 next st [6 times (st3+st4)] (18 tss)
Row 12 to row 13- continue without any increases (18 tss)
Row 14- Decrease 6 times by passing the hook through the 2 next st [6 times (st2+st3)] (12 tss)
Pass the “tail” to the other side at the base of the egg using your yarn needle so that the “tail” should be at the outer part of the egg
Stuff the egg with polyester fibres
Row 15- Decrease 6 times by passing the hook through the 2 next st [6 times (st1+st2)] (6 tss)
You can add more polyester fibres if needed
For the finishing follow the instructions on Figure 5
